The Long Shadow Of Chronic Child Sexual Abuse: Developmental Interferences Across The Life Cycle

Dr. Colarusso will present material from his new book of the same title. Detailed case histories of individuals, ranging in age from five to 60, who were chronically sexually abused as children or adolescents, will be presented. The main purpose of the presentation will be to describe the varied symptom pictures, range of diagnoses and  pervasive interferences with normal development which continue throughout the life cycle as a result of chronic sexual trauma.

Calvin Colarusso, M.D. is a Training and Supervising Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychoanalyst at SDPSI, and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCSD.

Marti Peck, Ph.D. is certified in Adult Psychoanalysis and is a Senior Faculty member at SDPSI. She trained at the County of San Diego's Child Sexual Abuse Program, and specializes in treating Adults Molested as Children (AMAC) patients in her private practice.

Educational Objectives: 
  • Describe the phases of adolescent development
  • Formulate the main neurotic learning disturbances that affect adolescents who have been sexually abused.
  • Apply the above to guiding interventions in clinical work with adolescents who have been sexually abused.
