Psychoanalytic Evaluation and Treatment of Couples

This workshop will teach how psychoanalytic concepts can be applied to the assessment and treatment of couples. Emphasis will be placed on developmental, psychoanalytic ways of understanding mature adult love, with various practical, clinical examples.

Lee Jaffe, Ph.D. is a Training & Supervising Analyst, President of the San Diego Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, and he is on the clinical faculty of the UCSD Department of Psychiatry. For the past 20 years he has been developing an approach to treating couples that is based on psychoanalytic principles.

- Describe psychoanalytic concepts relevant to the evaluation and treatment of couples.
- Apply psychoanalytic concepts to clinical examples of couples who present for treatment.
- Define the essential aspects of mature adult love that cross cultural boundaries.
